Staff was friendly and informal, we felt no pressure and had a wonderful time there. We ended up adopting a sweet, quiet dog who fit right in to our home with a short adjustment period.
BEWARE! THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE LONG-TERM WELLBEING OR FUTURE OF THEIR ANIMALS. We adopted a dog from Grant County A.O. as part of an adoption event that was held in Kirkland, WA. We immediately fell in love with him and took him home. As soon as we got home we noticed that something was not quite right with his health. Every time he lay down he had thick green mucus coming out of his nose. Within 3 days of adoption we took him to the vet because he was coughing and vomiting profusely. Within a week we were in the ER. It turned out that he had a severe case of pneumonia with 3 different strains of bacteria in his lungs – one of which that was extremely resistant to antibiotics. After a week of having him we had paid over $1000 in medical bills. We were given a month’s free insurance with the adoption but only accidents were covered for that first month and illness coverage didn’t kick in until the 2nd month. I called GCAO and informed them of this and they said that they were not aware of that...seriously? The lady I initially spoke to said she was surprised he became so ill because he had gone to the doctor a few days before the event. When I asked to see papers that he was seen and diagnosed healthy she said they didn’t have them and that I would have to call the office they brought him to. She assured me that a manager would follow up with me. This never happened. I called the vet they took him to and they only had record of neuter and flea treatment, which was all that I had paperwork for, also. After not hearing from a manager I called GCAO again and was put on hold until a manager got on the line. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever had from anyone, EVER. This lady was not only extremely rude but also took absolutely no care in how the dog was doing and even said it is common that dogs traveling from their shelter get sick…WHAT!? How can you not disclose something like this to people wanting to adopt animals!? She even had the audacity to suggest I was lying about his condition. I was absolutely furious getting off the phone with her and decided to look further into the “medical care” they had given him. I noticed they only neutered him 3 DAYS BEFORE HE WENT ON AN ALMOST 200 MILE JOURNEY. They did not give him the adequate time to even recover from being neutered. Overall this whole experience not only placed a financial burden on us but also made me lose all trust in this organization. GCAO is risking the long-term wellbeing of their animals by using such practices. While at the ER we were informed that if this dose of 3 medications didn’t work (costing over $600) that the next step would be either hospitalization (running 4-5K) or euthanasia. Luckily he got better after 2 weeks on antibiotics. But just think about this scenario…if we had not been able to pay the initial treatment we would’ve had no other choice but to give him back to GCAO who already did not care for him properly to begin with. What would’ve happened then? I don’t even want to think about it… Luckily he is better and has a forever home, but GCAO now has a reputation with us that they will never be able to get rid of. ADOPT FROM SHELTERS WHO TAKE CARE OF THEIR ANIMALS.
Some people try to make the world better. I LOVE IT
For an organization concerned with the well-being and adoption of animals, they can sure be difficult to work with. Definitely not happy with the last two experiences I've had there.
I got my dog BeeBee here and she is the most sweetest dog. The staff was super friendly and helpful. This is a great organization that is doing what they can to help in the world.
